I am want to know why most of the low carb diets like paleo, banting ,the zone etc use banana for their low carb recipes and baking,is a banana not high carb fruit? This morning I was looking for low carb breakfast and most of the low carb baking and pancakes ,the main ingredient were bananas. I love bananas and I have nothing against them, but I've always had a misconception that they should be avoided because they are high in carbs ,30g of carbs in 100g(medium size) banana. Just wondering

And most of the time the banana is replacing items that aren't allowed in the diet or are far higher in carb/calories.

But this is one of many reasons I only follow CICO and not any particular diet. Too many arbitrary rules that don't make much sense.

Op do you have a medical condition that warrants you to restrict carbs?

Dunno why "banting" does it -- wasn't aware banting had recipes, wasn't he some Victorian era guy who did the first low carb diet that was written about or something. He probably didn't make baked goods with bananas.

Paleo and zone do it because neither of them is low carb in reality and both are anti added sugar. Paleo's rules have nothing to do with carb percentage or counting carbs, but is about cutting out grains, legumes, and dairy, and eating from whole foods (although IME many people doing paleo buy "paleo treats" all the time, so whatever). Anyway, bananas count as a "whole food," even when baked with, sugar does not.

Zone's percentages are 40% carbs, 30% fat and protein, so not low carb and not hard to fit in a banana, etc. I did the same macros for a while (NOT the Zone itself) and never had to think about my carbs, that's just where they naturally fell.

Like above paleo and the Zone aren't inherently low carb. You can be paleo and low carb or paleo and high carb. I wouldn't think banting would encourage bananas but I guess if you limited it to once per day and it was basically one of your only sources of carbs you'd be okay.

I stick with a keto diet which is similar to banting and I personally wouldn't pick a banana to eat but then again I don't really like bananas that much. You get a lot more volume for your carbs with non-starchy veggies and berries.

    True.
Only Banting is low carb. If it uses banana in a recipe I imagine it is with something that is sugar and grain free, using coconut or almond flours. That could easily be a low carb banana muffin with no sugar added.

Low carb is below 150g of carbs per day. If one really loved bananas, and did not want other carbs in their day, they could eat 5 bananas. Even someone on a ketogenic diet can fit in a banana if they want it.

100g of banana has 23g of carbs, so a bit less than you thought.
