What's up people. Brand new to MFP, looking to make good use of it. I just have never figured out how cheat days work. How do you guys do them? Are they planned? Do you go crazy or is there still some calorie limit? What about macros?

Hello! Some people plan them, others don't. For me, I plan them either Friday or Saturday(weekend) because I'm not so busy those days and I like the weekend. Lol I also don't do too much restriction during the week, I still eat snacks(dark chocolate, chips in moderation) Cheat day for me is just a day where I can eat out, eat junk food I wanted all week and don't log my calories in.

I plan mine which are 4 days a year. I eat what I want in amounts I want. I also track it. For me, it's a great mental break from limited calories.
  • 4 days a year?! That's serious commitment. Well done. I've usually come across 1 day a week. Do you guys feel cheat days have purely psychological advantages?

I don't see the need for cheat days. What exactly are you cheating on?

If I want something, I work it into my daily/weekly calories.

I wouldn't say they have psychological advantages. To me they feel like a dangerous, brief lapse back into the same eating habits that lead to weight gain in the first place. They certainly don't have any physical advantages beyond tasting good. I stay within my calories every single day. If I want a planned splurge, I make sure I squirrel away the calories and hit the gym, so that my overall weekly average stays within my deficit. I try and limit these to the occasional dinners out with family.
