Kickoff of the 2016 NFL season is this coming Thursday, 8 September. If you're like me, watching a game means sitting sedentary the entire time with drinks and snacks. Talk about working counter to any weight-loss goals. But there is a solution...
I'm not a big college football fan, but several schools have a neat tradition of performing pushups whenever their team scores. (Air Force actually storms the field after each score.)
Let's take this idea to watching an NFL game. Before kickoff of whichever game you're watching, pick a team. Whenever your team scores, time to celebrate by exercising!
- Beginner: perform 1 pushup (or exercise of your choice) for every point your team just scored (TD=7, FG=3, safety=2)
- Intermediate: perform 1 rep for whatever the new score is (if score is now 14, do 14 reps)
- Advanced: choose a different exercise (crunches, squats, etc) and do the same whenever the OTHER team scores
- Glutton-for-punishment: every commercial break, choose a third exercise for 10 reps
