So after two weeks of tracking my calories, and getting to the gym at least three times a week, I weighed in at the gym and discovered I had lost 10 lbs.
I went out of town Labor Day Weekend, and did not track calories (but did hit the hotel gym). I'm sure I went over my daily calorie goal, but not ridiculously so.
So I go back to the gym today and find I have gained back 7 lbs!
I jumped back on the scale after my workout and find I have lost a pound......after ONE workout!
What's going on?

Nothing unusual is happening to you. Fluid retention and the weight of food still in your system can affect your scale weight day to day and hour to hour. You likely did not lose 10 lbs of fat in the first two weeks, but probably much of it was water weight. Likewise, you probably gained back some water weight on your travels.
If you weigh yourself on the same scale at the same time of day and wearing the same thing each time, you will be able to see your weight trend over time, which is the important thing.1
