Can I go to the gym everyday?

I guess I don't fully understand the 'rest' concept lol.
I'm 31 female and I'd like to lose about 7lbs on top of the 33lbs I've already lost but losing isn't as important as improving fitness and general health. I joined a gym recently but more to help quitting smoking (distraction and prevent weight gain). I was going everyday but two weeks ago one of the instructors drew up a program for me for mostly core strength gain (my request). He drew up a strength training session, core strengthening session and a cardio session and told me to go about 3 times a week.
I'd really like to be going most days rather than every other day. If I'm switching up my sessions i.e. cardio one day (cross trainer, row machine, kettle bells) then do strength the next (chest/shoulder/leg press) and then core the next (planks, bosu and medicine ball maneuvers) can I go every day? Or nearly everyday? Am I switching between muscles enough to rest them without doing damage or preventing progress?
Any thoughts are much appreciated!

It's all about intensity and your ability to recover. That current plan doesn't sound too taxing. It's very common for people to strength train 3-4x a week and 1-2 days of cardio as well. I'm a fan of doing something daily, even if it's active recovery so that a pattern and habit is established1
