Basic core

I need help. I need to strengthen my core and I don't mean I want a flat tummy(well I'd love it but that's not what this post is) I'm after some exercises to really start engaging the inner core. I have never had a strong core or lower back... Where the hell do I start!?

Try the "get back up" in this Dan John Video. Very functional core movements:

I would recommend two exercises:
1) Front squats
2) Hollow holds
You can find examples on youtube. These work and pose the least risk of injury.
