This. You can still eat snacks if you are able to work them into your calorie goal.
You make this sound like its just some super simple thing. The problem is, with calorie dense food, by the time you fit it into your calorie intake, you havn't even very much of it and you are starving to death. You can't eat calorie dense food and feel satiated at the same time.
Yeah you can, a lot of people on this site manage to.
Of course they do, because they are already in shape and their body is used to the amount of calories they get each day. But the problem is, those people are always giving that advice to people who are used to eating way more. I am accustomed to 3500-4000 calories per day and now I've cut back to 2000. I'm not going to be satiated no matter what I eat, so yes, it is impossible for me to eat calorie dense food and feel satiated because usually I'm not satiated when I eat lower calorie food.
I'm not in shape and I manage just fine.
You're picking apart what I'm saying rather than taking my point. You've been eating at a deficit, or atleast maintenance, for an extended period of time so your body is used to the caloric intake that allows you to maintain or lose weight. The problem with the original comment is that its always being given as advice to people who just started losing weight and are relatively new to eating at a deficit.
I get what you are saying, but don't think that we all don't want to have that chocolate chip cookie dough or walk through the store and see the stack of twizzlers. I pass a mexican food restraunt and want chips, salsa, guac., enchiladas.... The process is easy, the things you need to do are easy.. actually doing it isn't easy.0 -
It is a special person who can have chips and ice cream in the house and dole it out in deficit portions. lol..and that person ain't me I'd never buy it or put it in my house. I do treats..but only when I am out once in a while.0

That's when buying the individual size packages helps. Then you don't have to dole it out yourself.2 -

Then I always can't hold myself when chips or other unhealthy snacks on sale especial half price! Just can't stop buying them!!!!! What can I do!!!!!!!
If they fit in your calories, enjoy.1 -

Nothing wrong with the "unhealthy" snacks if you can work them into your calorie goals. I love the fruit and vegetables, but if losing weight meant that I couldn't have my ice cream, cake, chips,etc..then I'd probably still be fat. Ate some Talenti gelato just tonight in fact...85 lbs gone and staying off. I would even say having the treats worked in with the rest of my day keeps me better on track, personally. Don't get hung up on this idea that you have to always eat perfect or "healthy." 100% of the time.
Individually sized portions work well for this purpose, too, or sharing with others.1 -
I understand your frustration. Where i work we have free snacks for our customers and of course we can eat them as well. They are all pretty healthy such as fiber one bars, granola bars, almonds, but I snack on one or two plus eat some candy we keep up front and by the time work is over i have reached my calorie goal and havent gotten home from work or thought about eating dinner. I know my calorie goal is low but i have to push past my plateau or i am going to go ballistic.0

I think it's safe to assume that the OP is having an issue with including ice cream and losing wt at the same time, that's why she's here posting.
So, it's kind of ridiculous to suggest moderation or fit the item into the calorie allowance. That would be repeating the same issue.
With that said, I think I understand the OP and jdp3388's issue. Moderation doesn't work for people like them. In this case, try abstinence or fasting. You'll be amazed how much you get over these items after you have successfully avoided them for a week. First few days are always hellish. Nothing is easy.0 -

It's not really ridiculous to suggest moderation when she 1) hasn't said she can't moderate them, or that she's even tried (pre-portioning, pre-logging, etc) and 2) calls them "bad" and may just have the wrong idea about snacks.5 -

The packages are often beautiful with tempting photos. I had the same problem yesterday when I was in the grocery store. I bought salad instead, but it was almost impossible to walk away. I can't eat those snacks for medical reasons.
My thoughts:
Don't grocery shop when I'm hungry.
Make a list.
Stay out of the snack aisles.
Make sure I get enough fat in my diet, like avocado in salads -- that seems to help with cravings.0 -

I avoid supermarkets when I'm stressed. I get some exercise instead.
For problematic foods, I had to retrain my brain from thinking dollars per pound to calories per serving. I can moderate the 4 oz cups of ice cream, but not the pints, so I buy the mini cups instead, and don't care that they cost more per pound.
I don't bring foods I can't moderate into the house. Can you moderate single serving bags of chips?0 -

Not really since the OP doesn't mention struggling to stay at her calorie goal. Her post reads more like someone who thinks that snacks (meal timing) are intrinsically bad especially those that at so called "junk" food. They are not bad in themselves when fit within ones calorie goals, not even ice cream and chocolate.5 -

Yeah.. no. That's not what the OP says.2 -
Tough one.
I love, love, love chips. I could happily sit an eat an entire plate full - maybe even 2 plate's full. I knew that if I was to constantly buy and eat the chips, I wouldn't get to my goal. That wasn't to say I couldn't still enjoy the chips here and there - deprivation will never work for long-term weight loss, but I could 'make them fit' in my life without overdoing it. Life is about balance. Having a healthy life does not mean you have to cut out every piece of 'junk' and only eat broccoli - you are human being, not a robot ( or a rabbit..). If you stop eating the food you genuinely enjoy, you will get tired and 'done' with this whole process very, very quickly.1
