Eating more at night has long been my nemesis. I save most of my calories and macros for evening time so I can do what works for me the best. It's my boring time filler to be able to eat things. Just adjust your calories for later in the day.

I'm having a lovely bedtime snack of strawberries, crackers, and cheese. And I've lost 6 pounds in the past 3 weeks.

@girlinahat - I respectfully disagree. Two points I want to make. (1) Ever hear of the three-hour rule (i.e. don't go to bed until at least three hours after your last meal)? Go to bed right after dinner, and tell me you don't gain weight. I'll bet you do. (2) I put up my schedule as an EXAMPLE. Please don't take my posts out of context. Since you didn't disagree on portion control, I'm guessing we agree on that point.
I bet you DON'T. Your body won't magically start storing fat if you eat before bed unless.....you're in a calorie surplus.

I eat around 1hr before bed and I've lost nearly 100lbs doing just that, so yeah.
The 3 hour rule is an absolute MYTH. How would your body even know what the time is? Only those who have interrupted sleep and reflux should avoid eating before bed. The metabolism runs 24/7.

I eat at will through the day, with random gaps between meals, sometimes shorter, sometimes longer. I routinely eat before bed, usually just a snack, but occasionally I eat a full dinner after 9PM. This does not cause cravings and hunger pangs for me; rather, it helps me avoid them.

Not only have I lost weight (63 pounds) this way, I did so eating significantly more calories than MFP estimated I could eat and lose at the rate I was losing.

My N=1 suggests that timing means nothing, and eating less than 3 hours before bed is immaterial, as long as it doesn't give a person insomnia or indigestion.

But everyone should do what works for him or her. Satiation seems to be very individual.

I usually only eat two meals a day because I'm almost never hungry in the mornings. I eat those meals usually (but it does vary a bit) around 2pm and 9pm. Guess how long after I eat I go to bed? I've lost 104 lbs since last July. I respectfully disagree.

I lost 35 lbs eating right before bed - not more than an hour. Waiting 3 hours would just make me want to snack again which would have meant eating more overall.

@AnnPT77 you said it right. OP, experiment with the meal timing/macro mix that will result in fewer nighttime cravings/overeating.
