Last 5 pounds- pole dancing is kicking my butt

I've been struggling with problem areas for a while now and staying motivated. For me at this point it's about inches lost not pounds, as I don't have much to lose and I know that muscle weighs more if you have it. But with the lost motivation I would struggle with consistency as well. Recently I've been back at it and I got a membership at a pole studio for something different and I'm finally seeing a little change with arms that I've been wanting! My problem area and I've finally lost .25 of an inch in each arm! In just a few weeks so I can't wait to keep up with it

Great! My arms are the last to go!
Keep at it! I want to try a pole class too. People are more successful with fitness when it something they really enjoy!1 -
Pole will definitely kick your butt. It's an all around workout, so you'll notice changes in your core, back, and legs as well. My arms are so much more defined than they used to be and I credit that to all of the hard work I put in during pole.0

I would love to try it too - the acrobatic version, not grinding myself up and down it lol! Zero intetest in 'sexy' dancing and its hard to find a class like that0

Well pole does come from strippers so there is that. Also, when you first start they aren't going to have you doing inverts (going upside down) right away, you have to build up your strength through spins and even the chair and floor work is helpful for building strength and is a good form of cardio. Flow is also very important factor when it comes to pole. When you watch different people do the harder moves it's really breath taking, not just b/c they're hanging upside down by just the back of their calf but also b/c of how gracefully and fluidly they got up the pole and transitioned into the move. It all works together.1 -

Really? Where do you live that all you can find are the sexy style classes? I do both, but I only found one studio that does "sexy." Most studios around here are "pole fitness." Btw, all that "grinding" is a whole lot harder than it looks!1 -
I've recently started taking pole. I suck at pretty much everything that requires a lot of upper body strength (so mostly everything haha) but I have noticed a lot of improvement since my first session. I love it.1

Every poler has been there. You'll get better as time goes on, I promise.1 -

I've had half a dozen lessons since July, I suck at everything full stop, but I can (as of yesterday) do a pole sit with both hands off the pole now. MAJOR difference since last lesson. There will be times when you surprise yourself, and it does get better!2 -

I love hearing stories like this! I love hearing progress stories. B/c it really shows that if you have the determination to get better, you will get better. I remember when I could barely do a regular climb and now I'm mastering the spinning climb, side climb, crucifix climb, and high knees climb. But it all took time and effort and will power. The first time you try something, chances are you're going to suck... majorly. But if you keep at it you will improve.1 -
This post inspired me to look up classes in my area... there are a few.. but at 25$ a pop or like 250$ for 12 - it isn't something I can do realistically...
So disappointed!0 -
The first time I grabbed the pole with both hands and lifted my feet off the ground, I pulled both biceps and was in pain for days. My current goal is a deadlift handspring. You *will* get there if you keep at it!1

I'm working towards the kick-up handspring. My goal is to get it by the end of the year, lol.1 -
I would LOVE to try this. I saw a blog post for a studio that was having pole classes for 40+...only it's in Los Angeles. It's supposed to be a great work-out.0
