I am not working right now and can't afford a heart monitor. How can I know how many calories my workouts are burning?
Here are my stats:
Female, 39 yrs old, 180 lbs
Jogging 5.2 mph, 30 minutes
Walking 3.8 mph, 45 minutes

Running use bodyweight in lbs x 0.6 x distance in miles
Walking use x0.3 instead of 0.63 -
Did you calculate these through the exercise section of your diary through MFP yet? It will give you an estimated number and although it can be inflated some, you can choose to eat back a portion or % of those calories (around 50% - 75%). Watch your weight trends when doing this and lower or up these calories when needed.
Even with a HR, activity tracker, cardio machine data output, etc... they are all still approximations so there is no 100% accurate way to gauge the calorie burns.
If you walk or run with your phone, you can also do this by using something like MapMyrun, Runtastic, Strava, any running or walking app for your iphone or andriod.1 -
There are guidelines (you can log exercise in MFP and you'll see some estimates). But remember that calorie burn is just an estimate. I am 50 and weigh 200lbs and I use 100 calories per mile traveled. I'll go a few weeks and if I'm not hitting my goals or losing too much, I'll tweak it.
