The next step........... Macros and a few questions

I have been logging my food for a few months and have done pretty well losing the advertized 2 lbs a week and have not stalled with very few bad days, not many cheat days, or meals just been eating what ever I wanted to stay under my calorie limit. Really have not really concentrated on my macros at all just try to not go overboard on salt/sugar,get good fiber, and as much protein as I can. But as I slowly get closer to my goal I know I need to start to work on my macros. Even though I am still losing weight eating as I am I know it will get harder and as I get lower and have less margin for error.

Before I had MFP set at 60 carb/20 fat/20 protein since I started actively logging on MFP, but I usually go over on carbs. Did not care as much, as I said before I was not super concentrated on my macros. Now I have set it for what seem to be a common one of 40/30/30 because it seems like a good place to start

my questions are:
should I use net carbs? I try to aim for at lest 38g of fiber a day and that takes a huge chunk of my carbs in general(that was the threshold of what WebMD set and have kept it )

how close do I need to be to the exact numbers is +/- 10 going to make a difference the 2 I don't care about going over on protein or fiber in fact I try to make those red all the time

My Diary is always open, I have the next few days tentatively planned. My last week was not normal was moving all of last week so it thew my food rhythm waaaay off. I am not close to a clean eater I eat a lot of fast food and some processed food but I have cut a lot of it out but I do the everything in moderation thing

Any advice is welcome on my next step

bump to hopefully get some answers
  • I am diabetic so I count carbs real closely (except the last 4 weeks in which I was naughty). I count a carb as a carb. Sugar, fiber in my mind its still a carb. Had a little problem when they go too low (with my bowels). However, nbow I eat a protein granola bar for afternoon snack. That seems to help. I attempt to keep my carbs under 150 grams per day.
