Does anyone know of any good ankle and wrist weights that strap on? And not too expensive.

I bought 5lb ankle weights from Pineapple. I did a barre workout with them yesterday and my butt is killing today!

What are you using them for?

I have a pair of each, that I've only used once or twice. I don't find they help much, or change much in the whole picture. They are pretty light, so I don't think they are very useful.

I've got a pair of 2# (each) weighted gloves made by Altus which are preferable to wrist weights because they don't slip and keep the weight at the ends of your arms. Good for power walking or shadowboxing. Could use them jumping rope too.

I've also got a pair of 10# each ankle weights. No brand name on them but bought them at Sports Authority (now defunct). They each come w/10 1# weights in separate sleeves so the weights can be removed to set the wt as you please. They are attached to the ankle w/a velcro strap. Uncomfortable to wear w/the hard cylindrical weights straped against my bony ankles. Good enough for walking/hiking while wearing thick socks but probably not secure or comfortable enough for running.

I also have a pair of no-name weighted velcro ankle bands which are very secure when attached to the ankles but they only weigh 2-3 pounds each (non-adjustable) and won't give your legs much of a workout but they are much more comfortable to wear than the heavier ankle wts.

Use to use these things regularly when I belonged to a gym. Wore them while walking (I never run) on the treadmill or stair stepper. Have sometimes used them on walks and hikes and sometimes use the ankle weights for dips when wearing a 25#+ weighted vest is just too much.

Seldom use them otherwise. Of limited utility but no good substitute for them if that's what you need.

I don't know the brand, but I have both from modells. The wrist ones go up to 2lb and the ankle ones to 5lb. I use them both on my ankles for pt exercises to strengthen my quads and butt. I also have a set of aquatic ankle weights from Amazon that go up to three lb, for the same purpose.

Don't use ankle weights to run or walk. It's excessive weight on the joint directly and can change your gait, which itself can end up being problematic (hips and knees as well).

I suppose that could happen but I've never had a problem with my hips or knees because of it - - probably because I didn't walk that long or often with them or used excessive weights doing so.

Never walked or hiked w/more than 5lbs on each leg and only use max weights for leg lifts, dips and similar movements. Prefer to use the ankle weights over wearing a weighted vest especially when it's hot and when I only need/want to carry a few extra pounds for added resistance but, then again, I don't do so very often.

But it does nothing to help, and hurts more than helps.

Agree with ankle weights.....don't use them. Bad on knees. I speak from experience.....be careful.

    .....be careful.

Looks like I'm in the minority on this matter but there's nothing new about that.

I'll just agree that if you use ankle weights as I have, use common sense and be careful.

It would be better to wear a weighted running vest or a running backpack filled with extra weight, versus using ankle weights.

I do that as well but it's really a b#tch to wear a weighted vest or pack when it's really hot out (90-100+) and you only want to use a few pounds for extra resistance. My vest goes up to 75# and I don't usually put it on unless I want to carry 25#+.

Again, just use common sense and be careful when using ankle weights.

Common sense would be to not use them at all.
