High protein vegetables?

So obviously meat is way more difficult to keep in the house on a low budget compared to veggies and fruits. Does anyone have any suggestions for high protein foods that aren't made of meat? Thanks!

Beans and lentils, especially soybeans (tofu, tempeh, and edamame), although the latter might well be more expensive than meat, at least in the US where meat is relatively inexpensive (I see you are not in the US, however). Beans and lentils should be cheap, though. Grains will add some and should be cheap (rice, oats, wheat, barley, corn, etc.), and same with potatoes. There's going to be some in pretty much all vegetables, but some are better than others and none are particularly high in a normal serving size. (They add up, though.) If cost is the issue, buying in season and frozen out of season is what makes a difference to price here.1 -
