Arm weights

So I bought some weights to strap to my wrists. I've been using them about 4 weeks now, usually for the first 10 minutes or so of my treadmill workout. I've heard mixed opinions on these, and I bought and used a them before I read up on the cons. Some people say they can cause damage, so people say they're brilliant and have improved their workout ten fold. So my question is, does anybody out there use them? What results have you had, how long have you been using them, how long do you use them for, etc. I use the 4kg ones, one on each wrist. It definitely does increase my heart rate, and my arms feel weightless once I take them off.
