Calories in VS Calories out

Question for everyone:

My indicated calories for each day are 1590. If I workout and burn 500 calories (I do ChaLean Extreme and Brazil Butt Lift) in a day, my net calories would be 1090. However, MFP increases the amount of calories for me to eat to 2090.

Should I eat those extra 500 calories to make sure my body has the fuel it needs? Or do I stick with eating 1590 calories to lose weight?

This is all too confusing.... Thanks for your input. Its appreciated!

Other than the 1590 cals mentioned, the other numbers are for simple purposes. I'm really not sure what I'm burning with CLX or BBL as of yet.

It's up to you whether or not you eat your exercise calories. The reason MFP does this is because it's already calculated a deficit of calories enough for you to lose 1 pound, 2 pounds, whatever you chose when signing up. Eating back your exercise calories is meant to keep your calorie deficit at a healthy range so you don't lose too fast. I suggest that you try eating back your calories for a week or two. If you are still losing, why not? That's extra calories and fat grams you can have every single day! :) Everybody is different though. If you don't lose while eating your exercise calories, you don't have to eat them.

EDIT: If you do decide to eat your exercise calories, you should get a heart rate monitor. MFP overestimates on calories burned all the time. If you get a HRM, you'll be able to know exactly how many extra calories you can have!

Ok so I am doing P90X plus also walking everyday and I had the same problem.......the diet with p90x told me to eat 2400 ca / day which was actually more then I could eat. This website is so awesome. I eat 1200 to 1500 ca a day I try to burn around 1000 ca a day and I am very happy I have lost 3 ilbs in two weeks....I am not hungry but I do try to eat very healthy allowing myself one bad food a day. Oh and BTW yes a heart monitor is the greatest thing ever....I got mine at walmart it was $27......while not the greatest one there it works fine. I hope this helps good luck.

Can you or anyone else recommend one? I have heard a lot of talk about that on here. But I have been confused when shopping for one what to get. Money is tight and I can't afford to do trail and error.

as for the original post eat them if you feel like you need to eat them. Somedays I do and somedays I don't.

You add those calories to the total not subtract. You can now eat another 500 calories if you would like.

Exactly. I discovered that MFP was overestimating my calories burned by about 200-400 per workout. Now, I manually adjust my calories burned based on my HRM. As far as a good HRM, you can do some searches on the forums, but the most popular one out there right now is the Polar F6. It is good priced, easy to use, and offers basic functions like calories burned, heart rate ranges, time, etc.

Polar's are across these board the recommended. I LOVE mine. If you ever got a a gym, get a F6 or higher because the F4 can have interference from other monitors near you. The F9 has a nicer chest strap (more elastic, less plastic) but you pay for it. It has a lot of additional features (mostly tracking options) that you probably don't need if you are not training for something specific. The f6 is great, though if I had the $ I would have gotten the 9 just for the nicer / more comfortable strap. this one is not uncomfortable though.

When you buy - look on Ebay, ask around your gym to see if anyone is a dealer and can get you a lower price etc and wait to save up for it because it's worth it.
  • Thanks. Yeah I do a mixture of working out at a gym and at home. I will look for that brand and see what deals I can find.
