Will I Gain Weight?

Hi all,

Up to now ive lost 35lbs still have 70 to go, Ive set my loss at 2lbs per week. however for the last couple of weeks as I've lost more and more wight mfp has changed my calorie to 1240 (im 5ft9" Female)

I could push through on this but its a real struggle! I have today changed my loss to 1.5lbs per week and it has now given me 1490 which i feel is much more realistic, however Im really worried that i will now gain? if i eat at this amount?

Its taken me a long hard struggle to gain control of my appetite/food and Im scared of gaining feeling demotivated then going off the rails!
Just wanted to vent :) thank you

1490 is much more manageable. Stick with it for a month. I had to become more creative as time went on. More exercise will help, too. I'm pretty comfortable at 1600, but then I'm at maintenance, and I am often over that.

It's a balancing act, and the ability to be comfortable with it shouldn't be underrated! It's not all or nothing. If you want some special treat, it's okay to budget that in now and then. If you fall down, get right back up.

Changing your rate of loss is a very wise choice. You will only bottom out on the 1200+ eventually weightloss may become harder (slower and more frustrating).. So slowing it down to 1.5 now and maybe even to 1.0 and .5 the lower you go.

if you are worried about the scale showing shifts in water water weight changes up this a small bit over the first week or so.

But in short, no you will not gain real fat, only some minor changes on the scale at first in water weight.

If you are in a deficit, which you most certainly are with a 1.5 pound rate, you will not gain weight. You may see some gain in the form of water retention, or food still digesting, or not having a bowel movement, but you will still lose. Just make sure that everything is accurate, and you are using a food scale for all solids.

You will NOT gain as you are still in a deficit - just a little less aggressive than your previous deficit :) You'll lose a little less weight (Example: If you were losing 2lbs a week, you'll now lose 1.5)
Don't panic and trust the process.

To give some perspective I'm on 2300 calories and still losing. I've moved gradually from 1800 and now that I only have 14lb to go have changed to 0.5lb loss per week.
Admittedly my stats will be different to yours but what remains the same is that as long as you are eating below maintenance you will lose weight.

I'm a 5'8" female and am looking to loose 45lbs. I'm set to loose 1lb a week and my calories are set at 1420. I'm comfortable eating at that level but would struggle to eat any less then that. I've been loosing weight at that level - 15lb to date over the past 9 weeks. I have had weeks with increased weight but I just keep trusting that I'm eating at a deficit and that this will show a week or two later. My jeans are now my best measure of my progress.

Keep with logging your food and trust that if you eat at a deficit you will loose weight.

OMG< no, you will not gain as a 5'9" person at under 1500 calories. No, you won't.

Keep in mind that MFP takes off 250 for every half pound you wish to lose. To gain, you would have to eat over your maintenance calories, which is 2240 calories. You're still far from that, so as long as you're logging everything accurately you'll still lose.

    Hi all

Once again you have all put my mind to rest! Funnily today my first day at increased cals I'm ending at 1290! I could not eat another mouthful I'm stuffed, must have eaten better today

Will it matter if one day I eat at a lower amount then the next eat my full day allowance?

That's perfectly fine. Sometimes it's nice to "save up" for a bit more of a feast on others.

    Exactly!

Many of us here 'calorie bank' - (saving up unused calories over the space of a week or so for an indulgence at the weekend for example). It worked really well for me :)
