Building muscle

Hi everyone, I am just trying to find affordable food that your average joe could prepare to help build muscle, for either before or aft a workout?
Any tips would be awesome as building muscle is my goal and to improve my fitness and health.

    Whole fat milk
    Peanut butter
    Oatmeal
    Coconut oil
    Apples
    Bananas
    Pineapple
    Everything in bulk.
