Does protein powder potency expire?

I have an old protein (whey isolate) powder tub that is about 3 years expired. I don't really care if it tastes "bad" (it doesn't, it tasted lovely), but I also don't want to bother consuming it if the protein potency has denatured.
It smells fine, it tastes fine, but expired nonetheless, and I'm usually the last person to ever care about expiry dates, but I do want to consume it for the sole reason of potent protein.
