I'm new, but I just plugged in what MFP asked and it gave me a daily calorie goal. :) Depending on your job, you might be best setting your daily activity to sedentary (I'm a former office worker/programmer, so tons of desk hours, which hasn't changed much with my job hunting/keeping up the house since most of my day is still spent at a desk). I can't offer commentary on a dietary choice since I'm just cooking and eating in moderation (splitting meals that have higher calories than I want, eating more fruits/lighter snacks instead of calorie heavy ones, but eating at standard, traditional meal times).

Did you enter your personal stats into MFP when you created your account (age, height, current weight, etc.)? Did you set up a weight loss GOAL? This is where you enter goal weight and how many pounds to lose you wish to lose each week?

5;2? Do you have any previous experience with doing any sort of fasting (IF, 24 hour fast, Eat Stop Eat, etc)? This is a 2 days (500 cals for women and 600 cals for men on "fasting days") and eating maintenance calories the other 5 days. You should do your homework and educate yourself how this works.

Perhaps just plug the numbers in and start with a daily/weekly deficit and eat those calories each day and do this for a min of 3-4 weeks.. This way there is NO fasting, NO deprivation or NO restriction, it is an everyday number of calories to eat to lose weight.
