Can't figure out why MFP did this?

When I changed my starting weight, and brought it down by 10 lbs (4.5 Kg; 0.71 Stones), MFP changed my daily calorie goal down by 10 kcals a day. That's not an issue, I just don't see why it changed my daily kcal goal.
Nothing else changed, not my current weight, the rate of lose I wanted, nor my goal weight. I changed it because it was my old starting weight and I "re-started" MFP (meaning I started logging again) after gaining significant weight.
Any ideas?

Because you need a different calorie intake the bigger/smaller you are. So say if for example you need 1500 calories to lose weight at your current weight, when you lose 10lbs you won't need as many.1

I didn't lose any weight. The current weight stayed the same.
I started at 310 and (I don't remember when it happened) lets say at 280 I changed the starting weight to 300. I was still at 280 and did not change any other settings. But when my starting weight was at 310 my goal (again don't remember the exact numbers) was 2000 but when I changed my starting weight to 300 and still weighed 280, the calories dropped to 1990.0 -
Its because you need 10 calories less at 280.. your BMR is now lower at 280 then it was at 310.. As you lose weight your approx BMR will get lower and so will the calories you need to lose and maintain weight.
No matter how or when it happened this is correct.
edited to add: your starting weight has nothing to do with this.. it is the weight you weight now.0 -
No. My current weight of 280 never changed. The starting weight in the stats page changed. My current weight never did. That's what makes no sense. I also feel like maybe i'm not being clear on this.
280 current weight (at time) starting weight 310 down to 300, current weight still 280 when changing that setting.0 -

We're not dealing with the most robust software here (in my experience) and sometimes it will do odd things. If you want the ten extra calories, I would just add them manually or I would roll with the new goal (just my two cents).1 -
Or don't change your starting weight after the initial start. You're probably confusing the system. Just input current weight, if it's more (or less) than it was when you stopped doing MFP, so be it. Start from there.0

I use to change it all the time to change the My Progress bar. It helped psych myself out. In other words, if I lost 30 lbs I may start to slack off, but if I saw it and it said 5 lbs I, for whatever reason, logged better. However, when I did it this time, it changed my goal calories. It made no since, except maybe as a software glitch.0

I looked in Tech Support and found no issues related to changing the calorie goal when changing starting weight.
I might report it, the MFP Tech Support is really good at responding and also other issues that may have this issue may go there and post the question in that forum.
The next thing would be is it different via web vs phone app?0 -
10 calories either way really won't make a difference at all. I wouldn't worry about it.1
-
I'm not worried about the calories. I just can't figure out why they where adjusted in the first place. The only thing that makes since is a software error.0

Ok, just tried to recreate the issue and it didn't happen this time. It was a fluke.0

As your weight lowers your BMR lowers so the amount of calories you need to maintain your weight lowers.
Edit: Whoops, just noticed you said starting weight not current weight. Yeah that is weird.0 -
I know I know
It's cos MFP actually sucks ..the coding is pants
But it's good enough as a general guideline
People see numbers and think ooo that's exact
When what you should see is meh, 20% here or there

If you last adjusted your calories at a weight higher than your current weight, it may have refreshed your whole settings when you updated your starting weight. So it saw that your deficit was slightly off for your current weight and adjusted it.
Although it's weird that it did, that's probably why/how. I know if I fiddle with any of my settings and I've lost any weight at all since the last time I fiddled with any of my settings, it will recalculate my goal.2 -
You've met MFP, right?3
