New and Dejected

Hey there!
So, I was on the Fitness regime before, but then fell off the bandwagon pretty hard. After three years of weight gain, I've finally made the decision to really stick with trying to lose it this time and feel better about myself. Granted, I have only been going consistently at it for 3-4 days now and CERTAINLY have a lot more to do before I should expect results, however...
Looking at the scale has only made me realize how much I've gained. It being more than I've ever experienced before, I am genuinely concerned that even sticking to my current regime and what I view as noob-ish workouts won't do a damn thing and that next week, the scale will say the exact same thing....
Have any of you experienced this? Did your initial results surprise you? Please share beginner stories, whether it's about dieting or exercise.

Are you using this site to log your food intake? Do that for a week. Pay attention to be accurate. Once you actually see and admit what you're eating, you'll think of ways that you can reduce your intake of calories. Exercise is not necessary for weight loss. Exercise is good for you. So, exercise. But, weight loss happens when you are in a calorie deficit for a prolonged period of time. The most certain way of being in a calorie deficit is to truthfully and accurately record every food you eat, before you eat it.3

^^^ he's right. Start with your food. Do it for a couple of weeks, no exceptions. Add (more) excerise as you learn your food habits and adjust your lifestyle. For me it's 80% food and 20% excerise. All the food I could stuff in my face would eliminate my deficit in minutes, if I make that choice.
