I see fluid oz. in the app a lot. Is that what I would select to weigh oats?

fl oz are a measurement of volume (like tablespoons or cups) and oz are weight.

The best unit to use when weighing solids is grams since that's what is used in the nutritional information.

Fluid ounces and Ounces are different measures:
Fluid ounces are a volume measurement, like a quart, gallon, etc. (use measuring cups to get a fluid ounce)
ounces are a weight measurement, like a pound. (use a food scale to measure ounces)

Weight measurements are more accurate for calorie counting than fluid ounces.

Fluid Ounces are a liquid measurement. One fluid ounce is 2Tablespoons.

For pure water, it's weight-equivalent. "A Pints a pound the world around" means that a pint (16 fluid ounces) weighs a pound (16 ounces). For other liquids it may not be so equivalent.

There is a glitch in the database that causes system entries for some solid foods to have liquid measurements such as fluid ounces, and lack regular grams and ounces. @CyberTone can speak to this more if he's back.

I reported 'Seeds, pumpkin and squash seed kernels, dried' for this issue on April 22 and followed up with Support in May, June, July and August. This entry is still not fixed. This is Case ID: 930766.

8 regular ounces of pumpkin seeds has 1268 calories; 1 cup (8 fluid ounces) has 721.

From the USDS database: Basic Report: 12014, Seeds, pumpkin and squash seed kernels, dried

This sort of thing is the reason why I won't consider paying for Premium.

If you see *fluid oz* for anything other than *liquids*, it is a database error. Do NOT use it or your calories will be way off.

Unfortunately, it has been a known error for quite some time.
