People will always try to control your life, the question is will you let them?

Believing they have it, is allowing it.

    Best response, I agree!

People can't always accept that there's more than one path through life, or that the one they took isn't right for everyone else. That's what cattle prods are for.

Nobody can control your life, other than you - to a certain extent, even then life often does as it pleases.

You choose the influence that you allow people to have on your life.

Because they are so miserable in their own lives and want to make those around them miserable. Don't give anyone that kind of power.

What suggestions are they making Angela?

Paying for marriage seminars and marital counseling without asking, then telling me that as a Christian wife I should do everything I can to make us work.

So pretty much, if the marriage fails its my fault? It failed a long time ago when he jumped in bed with someone else while we were still together.

Is this a family member? Here's my take, granted I'm just some internet stranger...

Thank the person for his/her concern. Why mess up a family/friend relationship? Explain politely that while you truly appreciate their thoughts and concern, it is a private, personal situation and you're just not comfortable at the time to discuss this any further. Tell them you'll come to them if you ever need help. Then in your mind you can think whatever you want toward them. I personally don't take what you posted as it being your fault; it sounds like someone really cares and was making a kind gesture. But that's just my take. Good luck!

Is this the husband doing this? The one you're considering divorce from?

No, an elder couple in the church.

You should tell them, seeing as they're so interested in your marriage.

Why air your dirty laundry for the old church folks to see? They probably do not mean any harm, they likely feel they're really helping. Kindly disregard their offer and move on.

They're from a different time-- when divorce wasn't an option. Appreciate their advice for what it is, and then move on from it.

Your marriage, or divorce- is yours & nobody else's.

Do what makes you happy. Life's too short to live in misery.

    See:  Matthew 7:1-5.
  • “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."

This verse doesn't solve everything... It's far too overused.

Tell them anything that you want.

They're old; they will forget the conversation in 15 minutes anyway.
