Give your body a month or so before you jump into the weight loss game. You need to give your body a chance to heal and get your milk supply established. Once you are up and about, it's okay to start with some gentle exercise (slowly work up to the tough stuff), and eat a reasonable low cal diet. Remember that if you are nursing exclusively you need to eat 500 calories to sustain your milk supply. As your baby begins to transition to solids, you can lower those additional calories to about 250. Keep taking those pre-natal vitamins. In my case, In just ate a vegetable and protein heavy diet (this was pre MFP), and was back to my pre-pregnancy weight within 6 weeks. Of course, I was overweight to begin with, and just didn't gain a whole lot to begin with.
Don't go overboard, and stay healthy.1 -
I would give yourself more like 6 weeks before you work too hard, but you do burn a lot of extra calories by breastfeeding so if you eat reasonably healthy (which can be challenging with a new baby to take care of) you will probably find you lose some weight even without trying too hard. Then, once your milk supply is established, you can work a harder at it.
Congratulations!0
