Constipation?

It seems like since I've started eating healthier I'm always constipated. I can go days without using the restroom whereas before it was 2-3 times per day. Anyone else experience this? Any remedies? I drink a ton of water, but I'm not really sure of my fiber intake. I need to start watching it more.

I get it a little, but mostly because I'm on an iron supplement. I add a serving of clear Metamucil to my last drink of the evening.

I'd definitely look at your fiber intake. I'm assuming you're not ill or taking any new medications however, as some can cause constipation. That being said, maybe your body is still adaprting to the change. Alternatively, some people only go every few days, it's normal to not go everyday.

have you gone low fat in your healthier eating? Fiber is important, and so is fat in keeping things moving. Avocados, olive & coconut oils, raw nuts, nut butters, full fat dairy.....good stuff.

You can use MFP to track your fiber intake. Go to your food diary and click on the settings on the top of the page. It allows you choices of what you choose to track. That might help you choose better fiber-rich foods. Good luck.

I just started taking a fiber pill. Seems to be helping. I didn't like the powders types very much.

Increase your fibre.... Try Fybregel sachets.........You take them with water

    Or prune juice

Grapes always make me go for some reason?? Strange!

    Prunes are your friend.

I was having the same problem as you but I started eating 4-5 prunes a day and now I am regular and go daily. It feels so much better to not be "full of it".

I have the same issue and I talked to my doctor about it. He suggested that I take Colace. I started using it and it's made a HUGE difference.

If you're not sure on your fiber intake, change the settings on your food log to show total fiber.

I had the same problem, and found that upping my water helped. I thought I was drinking enough, but then when I started actually measuring it, I found that I wasn't getting as much as I thought I was.

Also, it was getting to the point that I was going to go see a doc about it. In the process of trying to research what might be wrong, I found an article that pointed out that our bowels' urge to go, comes and goes. So as soon as you feel the need, go. Don't wait five minutes, because the contractions needed to move everything down will stop. That makes the constipation worse.

After having major constipation and repeated anal fissures for several months, I finally listened to my doctor and upped my fiber intake and now I go almost every day. Definitely look into your fiber intake.
