Where to start ?

I've had a gym membership for awhile now but never really put it to use. I'm 5'8 and 177 pounds. My goal is 150-155. I don't really know where to start as far as exercise goes.
Is it better to focus on cardio when trying to lose weight or do a combination of cardio and weights ?

Find what makes you happy and start paying attention to what you eat. Working out doing something that makes you miserable will simply find you backing off/out. Your calorie intake is probably more important right now. Focus on your food choices and a colorie deficit. You can lose weight without working out making some healthier food choices. Of course I'm no expert so take the info with a grain of salt.1

When I first started, I made it simple by taking walks. Never less than a mile - tried to do at least 1 1/2 every time. It helped me tremendously, and I dropped 20 lbs in about two months. (I am also larger than you, though.) Just start small, and work your way up! Focus more on healthy eating, though.1
