I'm male, and overweight. I'm 5"10 and weigh 196 lbs
Eating around 1500 cals per day (I dont count calories so I really dont know, but ive lost 24 lbs since end of June.
I exercise 5 times/week walking/running and was thinking about adding some exercise to preserve muscle.
Ive downloaded the fitstar app, but now im in doubt if i should do their "get lean program" or "get strong program" ?
I should already get enough cardio from walking/running I would assume? So I should do the "get strong program"?
I dont plan on building a lot of muscles, but I would like to preserve what I already have so I can still lose weight.

description of the get strong program
In 20-40 minute sessions, you’ll notice your overall fitness improving, especially when it comes to muscle strength. Relying on just your own body weight, Get Strong includes a perfect balance of strength and cardio with moves that you can do at home or on the road.
description of the get lean program
Looking to focus on weight loss and muscle tone? Starting at 30 minutes, Get Lean’s Sessions are a little bit longer with an extra helping of cardio and can be tailored to challenge all skill levels, ensuring that you stick with it as you progress and lead a healthy lifestyle.

you wont gain much in the way of muscle eating 1500 cals, so i wouldn't worry about accidentally waking up one day looking like Arnie...
you want to lose weight while preserving as much muscle as possible so i'd go with the get strong.1 -
Well you are on the right track.. You are not gonna build any great deal of muscle size in a deficit. And since you are losing weight, you just simply need to find a structured program and make sure your protein intake is adequate enough to support all of this.
I know nothing of the program you linked. If you feel that you will meet your goals and it is tailored for your level, do the lean program. Why not?
Have you by chance read this link here in MFP?

No but I wll certainly have a look.
Thank you both for taking the time to answer.0 -
Eat more food you're practically starving yourself. As a 170lb make I cut weight at 2400 calories and I don't do a minute of cardio. So you're saying you've lost 24lbs in 3 months? Dude add 500 calories to your daily intake. You're losing 2llbs a week, you will honestly be lucky if you retain any significant muscle mass even on a structured lifting program. Take this from someone who cuts weight 2-3x a year, you need a sufficient nutrient intake, which I guarantee you're not getting at 1500.0

Thank you. TBH the loss is less now than what it was in the beginning, so last couple of weeks it has been around 1 pound/week.
I will try to stick to that0
