Question about pant sizes

This is a dumb question. But I'm wondering, if you gain weight slowly (as most peopled do), can pants "expand" slowly with you so you don't actually need to buy new pants (up to a certain point of course)? I know stretchy pants can do this, but I am also refering to non-stretchy jeanes / shorts.

Jeans are usually denim (cotton) and like all natural fibers will have a bit of give. In fact, after wearing them for several hours they will be slightly larger than when you put them on if the fit is snug and applying pressure to the fabric. Putting them in the dryer after washing will shrink them, but if you hang to dry they can slowly stretch over time.
Also, gaining weight does not always mean going up in pants size, depending on where exactly you gain it, pants size may be unaffected.0 -
Absolutely. Denim and other fabrics will stretch for sure.0

Stretchy jeans are the devil. You can gain 20 pounds in them and not notice a difference in the fit.2
