Folks - I'm sure this is not the first time it has come up; I would like to know what calorie counter/calculator models, equations, websites, etc. you have found to be more accurate?
Also, the engineers, scientists or just-curious types amongst us, have you come across any papers and publications that might be useful?

I use a power meter on my bike which is a training and pacing device, but a side effect is that it's about the most accurate way to calculate calories outside of a laboratory.
I think FirstBeat's algorithm is generally considered to be the best way to estimate calories from HR data.

Because I use a Garmin bike computer and watch, these are of interest to me. Don't know if you'll get much benefit from these or not. A lot of people in here use Garmins so these links may be useful to others.
