Why is it 90% of the places I go to eat don't have a clue how many calories they are serving but McDonald's does. I wish there was some sort of mathematical equation that I understood on how to determine actual calories of some of these Foods.

Only chain restaurants are required to provide this information...it is expensive to provide and would put most local establishments out of business.

I understand that but yet most places know exactly how much food they are serving that would be helpful. 6 ounces of chicken 1 cup of vegetables and half a cup of rice at least then I could do the math myself

Protein and carbs are both 4 cal/gram
    fat is 9 cal/gram.

    Just do some math..

I asked the waiter at Roti how many calories were in an order of paneer tika masala with vegetable pokoras and the told me I could order a chai tea as well to round it out at 500. I guess there's no law against outright lying. :disappointed:

Great advice. Instead of asking the restaurant staff how many calories are in a meal, just ask how many grams of protein, fat and carbs there are. That's much easier info to get from them.

You can usually do an estimate based on a similar meal. If u go there a lot you will be able to fine tune it.
