Garmin forerunner 435 syncing slow

I'm still trying to figure out this Garmin forerunner 435 that I got in May. So, it seems like it takes a long time to sync and the whole process seems kind of convoluted. Can't it just do it automatically? Do I really have to go every so often and find the device in Connect then select sync which doesn't want to work 50 percent of the time anyway and then wait for several minutes for it to sync?
