Hi, I am in need of loosing 40 lbs. I eat well, under 1100 cals a day. Included is my one soda a day. I only lost 3 lbs in 20 days. I am shy, an have a hard time going to the gym. Also my meds I take make it much harder to loose. Please be kind, if you send messages of encouragement. Thank you!

Why do you think losing 3lbs in 3 weeks is bad?

You say you eat well, under 1100 cal a day. That could be your problem. Without knowing your habits, BMR and other info too hard to say if that is the issue. A soda a day wont kill you, wont help you. I would say do some research and learn as much as you can about a plan that you are interested in. There are so many diets and things out there, I am sure you will find one. Lots of resources and help on MFP as well! Good luck! :-)

Diet or regular soda? If regular that extra 150 calories on a diet that is already too low is a problem.

When you say you eat "well" what does that mean? I can eat fruit all day & be significantly under my 1200 calorie allotment but that is hardly eating well because it's not a balanced diet.

What does being shy have to do with going to the gym? You don't have to interact with anybody at the gym. In fact most people prefer to be left alone.

Losing 1 pound per week is significant. It's something to be proud of. I have been doing this since July so a little over 11 weeks & have lost 11 pounds. I'm pretty happy. Could I have lost more if I didn't fall of the wagon & drink & eat too much most weekends? Probably but I'd be miserable so that won't work.

You can do this but you need to be realistic. Even if it takes you 10 months (40 weeks) to lose your 40 pounds you will still have lost your 40 pounds. You didn't gain those pounds overnight so you can't expect to lose them quickly.

If your medication is making it tough to lose weight, speak to your physician about changing to something that doesn't have that effect, if such a medication exists.

well first off, congrats on the 3 pound weight loss so far! 3lbs in 20 days is a good accomplishment. Secondly, I'm afraid you may be eating too little calories. You don't list your height or weight here, so I am unable to give a good range of calories you should be eating. But, I can say that it isn't the healthiest choice to eat under 1,200 calories a day. You should really use an online calculator to figure out how many calories you should be eating each day in order to lose the weight you want to lose.

Here is a link to one calculator: https://www.caloriecount.com/tools/calories-goal

I'd be happy with a one pound per week loss and so would many other people. With 40 pounds to lose that's a reasonable rate, your expectations are just a bit too high.

Unless you are very tiny, 1100 calories per day is too little. If you plug your personal information into MFP and give it a 1 pound per week goal how many calories does it tell you to eat? That's what you should be eating. You're doing your body harm by under-eating for a sustained period of time. You are also not learning how to keep off the weight once you reach your goal. Don't fall into that trap.

You don't need to go to the gym to lose weight. Weight loss is created by eating fewer calories than your body burns each day. We exercise to be fit and/or to give us a few more calories to eat each day. That said, most people at the gym don't interact and they certainly aren't watching someone else workout; they are focused on themselves. It's actually a great place to be alone in your own headspace. If you are very anxious about it but still want to exercise find something you can do at home. There are lots of exercise videos out there, you could jump rope or you could lace on a pair of running shoes and hit the pavement.

I hope you get it all figured out. It's really not that hard once you learn how easy it is to lose weight without starving yourself or killing yourself in the gym.
