I have been battling my weight for a few years now. I'm up to 223 lbs and my highest weight yet! I have tried many diets and have not succeeded yet. Today starts a new run and I'm going to put all my focus on making myself healthier and more active. Can anybody give me tips on what to do? My life consists of working as a waitress and running after for children so time at the gym is very slim.. I could use all the friends and motivation there is! Thank you!

Honestly, if your goal is to drop weight, the kitchen instead of the gym is where you need to focus your efforts.

    1. Go through the set up portion of theMFP calorie tacking app. entering in your height and weight.
    2. Get a food scale, weigh everything that goes into your mouth and record it in MFP calorie tracking app.

The gym is a great place to recreate and improve fitness and strength. But weight loss comes from taking in fewer calories than you use up each day.

Best wishes in meeting your goals!

One thing that could help is thinking through what you did before and why it didn't work. Often the problem is too little patience or a black and white approach (either you are perfect or eh, why bother). Rather than thinking of it as a diet, that you are either on or off, it can work better to focus on understanding how and why you were overeating and making small changes to fix that (and to add activity, if that's also a goal--it doesn't have to be at the gym).

Having a plan that is realistic for your personality and preferences is IMO extremely helpful.

My only tip would be this - try, try, try to not look at it as 'being on a diet'. I know it sounds ridiculous - but this needs to be simply a better way of eating for you - for life. Diet's end. This is a forever lifestyle change. Deprivation doesn't work. This whole process is ultimately about finding a balance. You can get there :)
