So tonight tried to do squats and things felt good until I got to my 2nd working set with a weight of 260#. And it started getting sore (feels super tight and hurts (3-4 on scale 0-10) anyways I called it quits on squats. Guess I will take a couple weeks off on squats, perhaps do mobility work in a few days.

At 39 I guess it will take a little bit to heal. Any ideas on what I can do? I've iced and taken advil, it don't bother me with daily activities and deadlifts. Tuesday deads felt good, not doing squats Sunday certainly helped that workout.

Yep once you get around the age, things tend to pull quite easily.

I would warm up really good on a walk or bike and wouldn't refrain from squats entirely, just drop the weight substantially like 40-50% working weight or whatever feels comfortable.

Stretching is a must afterwards. Of you don't have it in your regime, I would urge you to consider making it a staple after lifting if possible.

Groin and hammies pulls take much longer to heal than after the pain goes away.

I pull or tweak a hammy/groin once a baseball season since my 40's.

At least you didn't tear it, takes about a month to heal, hopefully the pull will be better sooner.
