80/20

So I always read how the bulk of your weight loss success is your diet, and 20% is fitness. I have been vegan, vegetarian, juice fasted...name it I have done it. But the scale doesn't move unless I workout and sweat. Is my metabolism ruined from all the diet changes over the years?? Is it my age? Im 28. Is it my genetics, bc when my dad works out be loses a whopping amt of weight but his diet is bs!
I work/commute 14 hr out of the day, then motherly duties...so I only have a small window to workout which is weekends or late night. And the latter never happens. Smh any ideas? Oh and im a private duty nurse, so I only have one patient so I don't have an active job.

Eat less... A calorie deficit is all you need for weight loss.

It doesn't matter how you get into a deficit, it's the deficit that matters. Weight loss isn't a bumper sticker.

Yup. You need to account for all of the calories you are taking in. Start measuring your food and track it accurately. Your genetics and metabolism are fine.

The only way I know is to weigh all your food with a digital scale and make sure your daily intake is less in calories than what you burn overall each day.

80:20 maybe, maybe 90:10 but either way, yes, weight loss is about calorific deficit and that can be achieved by diet, exercise, or both.

Vegan, vegetarian, clean eating, paleo, juice fasts, IF, low fat, low carb all mean nothing (for weight loss) unless there is a calorific deficit (as proven by your Dad's loss with a "bs" diet).

Is it genetics (it's not from your Dad's side of the family if it is) or your metabolism wrecked? Probably neither, it's much, much more likely that you're eating more than you think.

And, if you struggle to fit in exercise, know that you don't need to exercise for weight loss as long as you get the food right (in other words creating a deficit from diet alone).

Well, everything is mathematical at some level lol. Just remember that everything is an estimate and there is natural variance so you'll still need to play around with things a bit till you get it right for your body.
