Got jacked for my pacer steps calorie adjustment?

Yesterday I went hard trying to earn some extra calories for todays dinner.
I rode my stationary bike for 80 minutes and logged 20,000 steps.
I was planning on doing the same thing today so I could eat good without worrying about going over.

I went to bed with almost 600 calories earned from my steps. When I woke they jacked me for my calories only giving me 84!

I busted my behind getting those steps in. I walked five miles to the supermarket and carried back some heavy *kitten* bags just to add weight to the walk. I do not have negative adjustments on. Can someone tell me where are my calories lol?

Yes, your calorie adjustment will depend not only on the number of steps you take but also on the activity level you have chosen in MFP. In the end, total calories should be the same. It's just that your base calorie goal is higher than it would be if you were set as sedentary.

But can you tell me where they get the 84 calories? Why not just take them all away?
MFP gave me 600 for the 80 minutes on the bike, so if I divide the two activities did I really only get 600 calories?

Im kinda bummed because I just wanted a day where I could eat without sticking to 1330 calories for the day.

Then just eat at maintenance for a day.

What do you have your weekly weight loss goal set to? If it's .5 pound/week, add 250 calories for one day. If it's 1 pound/week, add 500 calories for one day. It's not a big deal to have one day at maintenance every once in awhile.

Pacer has been acting up for me lately. It use to sync regularly. I noticed my steps being particularly low one day so I opened the app to check. The steps were there but it hadn't synced with MFP since early in the morning. Now before I eat dinner I manually sync it and whatever steps I do after that just don't count.

I think your view on calories may need adjusted. You can enjoy yourself sometimes if you really want to without having to "earn" the privilege. Just don't make it a habit.

I'd much rather earn my extra calories through activity than not. I dont see anything wrong with banking calories for a big meal. I'm just confused where the calorie adjustment went.

Its not like I binged and then went and tried to punish myself by exercising till I drop, to undue the damage.

Im a planner by nature this works for me.

I don't don't disagree with banking as I do it myself sometimes. I think an extra 3 hours of exercise just to eat a lot of food may be a bit much, though? You're doing the same as your example, just in reverse order.

Being set at lightly active shouldn't make much difference. Only the first 5000 steps don't earn any extra.

My base target is 1310, at the moment, to lose 1lb per week, but I can add on around 200 by making sure I get to 10000 steps.

I look at my tracker data separately and basically average the tracker data and the mfp activity numbers, if they differ a lot. Trackers are great but not infallible. I mean, I've seen my wife's log a very complex sleep pattern whilst sitting on the mantle. And I've worked out hard a couple times only to discover my tracker wasn't paying attention. I like the two streams of data overall (click on the adjustment note to see a comparison)- but it's just data and sometimes requires a bit extra interpretation.

Nope, the fallacy with your comparison lies in believing that I'm preparing to binge so I need to punish myself ahead of time. My stomach cant at this point hold a ton of food, but the foods will be calorie dense.

By moderating the foods I eat daily and not restricting any food, I often have to choose.
Sometimes I want a taste of everything and cant do that on 1330 calories.

This isnt a binge, its a meal that will be over my alloted 1330 calories. If I decide that I want to eat more I'm covered for the extra calories.

By exercising to earn the extra calories I win.
I'm getting my fitness in and I get to enjoy a calorie heavy meal while still maintaining my deficit. As for the amount of time I exercised this one day? Why does it matter? You say its a bit much, someone else may think I didnt go hard enough.

Sometimes I feel like people on mfp want to project disordered eating onto everyone where there's none to be had. I've never been a binge eater nor been obese. The two times I've used Mfp was to lose pregnancy weight.

I've never had a problem with seeing food as a big bad wolf.

By the way, see my avatar? Thats my famous banana pudding with homemade vanilla wafers from scratch. That will be on the menu.

Just eat the calories. I'm not sure why you think you can't.

The activity trackers readjust as the day goes on. Basically they look at any given point as "you'll be exactly this active the rest of the day" and project a number. Then if you chill for a few hours it has to reproject the number because you weren't as active as the projection prior.
