I've been trying new veggies so that I don't get bored. I roasted rutabaga yesterday. It was really good. I plan to swap them out for white potatoes and make a "fake" potato salad using rutabaga. I can't wait!

There is a traditional Scandinavian dish that features potatoes, rutabaga, and carrots mashed together. As an update, I make it with sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes, and serve it with gravy when we roast a turkey. I also like including it in a lentil and root vegetable stew based on this recipe - http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/lentil-stew-with-winter-vegetables .0

They are a jewel. I have never had them, but I will definitely be incorporating them in my meal plans. They have a savory kick to them that makes my nose a little runny for a second because they are a bit spicy to me, but I absolutely love them. Will be stocking up this weekend. I was thinking about roasting them with carrots and chayote squash and serving with turkey and wild rice. I think it will be delicious. One bit of disclosure. My turkey and wild rice is from Jenny Craig. I'm not one who cooks. So, I buy their meals and volumize them with delicious veggies.2 -

Roasted with other veg does sound fabulous. I bet it makes for a much more satisfying meal together with the Jenny Craig turkey and wild rice.0 -
I like my rutabaga cooked in the pressure cooker (5 minutes), then mashed, and seasoned with some maple syrup and nutmeg.
I've seen a cooking show where the chef had made scalloped rutabaga, essentially using the same recipe as scalloped potatoes substituting the potatoes for rutabaga.
I also cook a rutabaga soup with bacon that's really tasty and cheap.1
