Please help - conflicting advice

I've decided to treat myself to some new trainers now that I have proved to myself I will go gym everyday, however there seems to be conflicting advice on the web regarding what trainers to get.
Unfortunately, there are no specialised running shops near me so have to rely on advice from large retail outlets. Trying to find my gait seems to be harder than I thought.....I done the wet foot test and that showed normal/high arch however the wear patterns on my current trainers indicate I have under-pronation as wear is along the outside?
Would I just be best to go for neutral trainers?

Your trainers are for gym use? Does that mean most of the time you will will be running on a treadmill or does your gym routine focus mainly on other cardio and/or weights.
If you do a lot of treadmill running* or any outside running then yes, find the appropriate running shoes. If your w/outs are stuff other than running then running shoes are not the best for you anyway since they don;t offer the lateral support that you may need and tend to have cushioning levels which tent to mess up form on some weightlifting exercises.
* note that the issues with distance running outside are greater than running machines because machines have a certain amount of spring, which minimizes the impact more than pavements.0 -
Note; I also supinate and strike mid and find a neutral cushioned running shoe works best for me but there was a period of experimentation (I don't entirely trust running shop gait analysis after having 2 shops give me opposite advice from their video analysis on the same day).0

yes the trainers will just be for treadmill and outdoor running.

I'd contact these guys: http://www.northdevonroadrunners.com/about-us
They are close to you and the members will have lots of recommendations as to where to buy. You may even find a member that is happy to check out your running form and recommend a style of running shoe.1
