What happens when you stop lifting weights?

I know for one, I wouldn't be able to continue lifting weights for the rest of my life. Why is that you ask? Because, I never plan to settle in a single place, I will always be travelling. Therefore, I always stick to calisthenics, but what if I start lifting (which I have recently) and then travel and stay in a place (which I will be in the next year) where there's no option for me to go to a gym, what will happen?

Is there anyone who has gone through such a situation? Like, you have had to stop lifting for some reason and if yes, then what happens afterwards? I am very curious.

Depends on a lot of things. Are you stopping lifting but continuing calisthenics? Then pretty much very little changes. Are you stopping all exercise? Just the strength training?

I went from solidly lifting for over a decade to nothing. I slowly got soft & lost strength, but it wasn't horrible and certainly not overnight. I resumed back after maybe 3-4 years with calisthenics and my strength returned quickly.

I had to take a break to rehab some injuries, but continued eating like I was still lifting and did no other form of exercise. I got soft and chubby.

I plan on continuing calisthenics my entire life. I have been doing such for as long as I can remember.

Next year, I will be going to Ethiopia to teach and it's a year long contract. I am not sure if going to the gym will be possible there assuming, it is a third world country. But see, I will always have my pull up bar, or there's trees everywhere, and there's also chairs and sturdy broomsticks to help in other workouts. And if there's internet, there will be Al Kavadlo.

I hope you've got back in your exercise gear again and are kicking butt.

These travel very well and you can use them to mimic things like a "bench" press (standing), butterfly pull, etc.
