How long can runners knee last?

So I stupidly pushed myself too hard and too fast and now my right knee is in constant pain.

I'm absolutely gutted I can't currently exercise....its been a week already.

How long can this kind of injury take to heal? Its a dull ache just to the inside of the bottom of kneecap if anyone can assist.

In my experience, you need to foam roll the hell out of the leg with runners knee. Outside thigh, quads, inside thigh, calf, every part of your leg. Over and over and over again until you hate your foam roller, then continue rolling until you love your foam roller, then even more until you hate it again. Only then will your knee be cured.

My knee usually comes around after a week or less.

It depends on how long you ran on it with pain before getting off it. Is this from overuse, doing too much too soon or having weakness in your muscles from the quads, hams, glutes, hips and calves.?

Start to build up/strengthen you muscles while you are recovery and cross train until the pain stops. Depends on your individual recovery on how long it takes to ease back into running.

yes I was stupidly pushing myself too much too soon. As soon as I noticed the discomfort I stopped running.

I have heard about foam rolling.....I will give this a go

It might depend on what you mean by Runners Knee, there are a number of alternative injuries that it might refer to.

I suffered Illiotibial Band Syndrome at my first HM, and it took a month off running to ease off.

Treatment would include core strength work, and flexibility work. I'm not really a fan of foam rolling for ITBS, but there are plenty of advocates.

Just done a quick google search (not the best method I know) but it seems Illiotibial Band Syndrome injuries are more on the outside of the leg? Mine is definitely inner to middle leg just below knee cap.
