Fat placement in your 30's vs your 20's

I was chubby through my teens and into my early 20's, then became a fitness instructor and maintained a fairly to very lean physique for years. In the last year I put on 15lbs. What I realized is that the fat isn't going to the places it went before. In my 20's the fat went to inner thigh and outer thigh, hip pads and abs. In the last year I watched my fat slowly creep on to my butt first, then arms, then boobs, then abs. Its so interesting!
Has anyone else noticed this? It must be hormonal, right? I am curious to see what type of body shape I have now that I am losing weight again. Due to hormonal differences, I should look different at the same body weight and composition that I was last year.
If you have experience with this, please share!

I've seen lots of people around here reporting that weight goes more to their abdomen/hips (more for women for the latter) as they age. Kind of the reverse of what you're saying but that is what I've noticed reading threads.
I'm just 30 and so far I haven't really seen a difference in fat distribution compared to my teens/early 20s, but I've also only fluctuated about 30 lbs max (and am at a lower weight now than I was for most of those years) and I haven't been pregnant. The only noticeable thing for me is that I have less fat in my face, but that's a good thing as my face has always been very round and cheekboneless.0 -

I've read this a lot here and elsewhere. I can't remember if I've seen any research on it.
I was very thin in my teens and early 20s, to the point where I didn't have any particular spot where I'd say the fat tended to go. I started gaining weight in my mid-20s and I'd say it went more to my midsection (abdomen/waist area) then, which is the same as now. I do not have curvy hips/thighs.

I was about 40lb underweight when younger so no idea about that, but since mid/late 20's I've always said that any fat I got, all of it, seemed to go between belly button and thighs. To the point where I figured if I ever got fat, I'd be one of those exteme pear women who look like they are sitting on someone else's butt and legs.
In my 40s it's much the same but I find that muscle can balance this; my arms and shoulders and back are bigger now. Still no waist definition, still no boobs to speak of (I think they got a little bigger but still usually the smallest in any group of women I'm in...) I am built the same but can carry more weight in a more aesthetic manner now, so I seem to be denser?
So I've apparently gotten more solid, which was a goal for me 'cause my grandma was very frail and i am built a lot like her.1
