Is it bro-science that you have to roll your glutes side to side instead of up and down?

A PT came up to me and told me that if I roll my glutes up and down, it will just make them longer and they won't look as big?
PT told me to instead roll side to side to make the glute appear bigger.
Bro-science?

Your profile says you are on a glute mission? Does you PT work with you on your pelvic issues and has he advised this method to help with that?0

Foam rolling isn't for making your muscles appear bigger no matter what direction you do it in. The PT (personal trainer?) makes it sound like you are kneading and stretching bread dough.6

Is his name Willy? Because that sounds silly.15

I don't have a PT anymore unfortunately. Wish I did.
Yes, it was to loosen up my tight muscles to fix my pelvis.
It was a different PT who told me of the foam rolling and I immediately thought "bro-science" in my head.0 -
For clarification: do you mean a Personal Trainer or a Physical Therapist?3

I am *kitten*uming she means personal trainer because I can't imagine a physical therapist walking up to tell somebody how to get her butt to look bigger. But I could be totally wrong about that.3 -

Agree. I would hope no physical therapist actually said that.1 -
That might be the most broscience thing I've heard all year.5

that's the dumbest *kitten* thing I've heard recently- and I work in state government.

I'm trying to wrap my mind around the idea and just cannot do it. I keep thinking of rolling out dough and the fact that the more you roll it out, the thinner and flatter it gets. I'm going to start telling people that I have big muscles but they aren't visible because I rolled them too much.14

Love the way you think1 -
Yes, yes that's exactly the way it works1

Does this mean that if I shave those light, vellous hairs that I have high up on my cheeks that they will grow back darker?
Ask that PT for me when you see him/her again. K?0 -
@Sued0nim is it 329 Camden rd you live at or
I will bring you cake. Look for the Java green Austin Mini parked outside.
Cheers, h.5 -

Maybe they were playing with you haha!1

Geez I was confused for a sec. Though "rolling" was some new form of twerking. Was really an odd image I had in my head, like a playdoh rump.

You know what makes them really big? Laying them on an LAX ball and working out the knots everyone rolls right over.
</sarcasm>
But seriously. Try it.2 -

/end thread. That is so laughable it reminds me of when my mother used to say not to pout because my face would freeze like that. Actually, there isn't even a lot of research showing much of any substantial benefit to rolling other than it does provide temporary pain relief but so do a lot of other things.0
