What To Look For In a Nutritionist?

My 11 year old daughter is significantly overweight. I have tried to teach her about good and bad foods, but coming from mom, it doesn't mean much. She is very upset about her weight and I need to do something to help her. So, I want to find a nutritionist to work with her.

She eats both healthy and not too healthy foods, but she eats a lot of everything. Her portions are out of control. So, how do I find a reputable nutritionist? What should I be looking for? Anyone have success with a nutritionist and an overweight child? Thanks.

A referral to a good dietitian. All kids eat whatever they want basically whether it's in front of the parent or not. Why do you think you don't have control over her portions?

If you can't control what is going in your own daughters mouth what makes you think a nutritionist can?:flowerforyou:

I'm personally against putting kids on a "diet", unless its the last resort. I think it can cause hangups with food, and possible disordered eating as thy become adolescents and young adults.

Have you thought about getting her more active first, and seeing if that helps? Examples such as dance classes, sports teams, martial arts, gymnastics etc.
