Late Night Eating

Hi! I work until about 7 then go the gym, getting home around 9.30/10 by which time I'm hungry. I usually get something to eat, trying to stay within my calorie allowance. Question is : my hubby says I shouldn't eat at night, I think if I'm hungry and I haven't used my calories I should - what do other people think/do? thanks!

For what reason does your husband think you shouldn't eat at night?
You can of course eat whenever you want just stay within your calorie allowance.3 -
You are right - eat when you need to, otherwise shift workers would all be overweight, right?
Time of day for your meals or snacks makes not a lick of difference - if you are within your calorie budget, nosh.4 -
I work nights if your husband is correct then i would have to wake up in the middle of the day to eat .
Eat when you are hungry and try and stay under your calories.3 -
Eat up and go to bed happy knowing you're full and free from the shady influence of broscience.3

The only good reason for not eating at night would be if it upset your stomach and kept you from sleeping. Otherwise, timing means nothing in the grand scheme of things.2

He thinks eating at night means it's just sitting in my tum, and I'm not getting the chance to burn it off - which doesn't make sense anyway as I work in accounts, so I'm sat on my butt for 8 hours a day0 -
I work late a lot and when I don't I usually go to the gym or do errands after work, so I lost all of my 95 lbs eating just like described in the original post -- around 9-10.
It was not a problem. ;-)
If you think about it, you burn what you eat + fat, and don't run on nothing ever, so it doesn't matter when you eat it you are going to burn it off if you eat less than you burn overall (the same reason exercising in "fat burning mode" is irrelevant). Like you said, the "don't eat at night" stuff makes no sense.1 -
calories can't tell time.3

If you stay flat on your back for 24 hours you still burn calories just keeping your body running .1

He's under the mistaken assumption that your digestive system/metabolism go to sleep when you do. Lots of people believe that derp. The truth is that your body works 24 hours a day. Meal timing is completely irrelevant except for personal preference.2
