DOMS: Immediately after, night of, or day after... Does it matter?

Does it really matter how long after you have DOMS, and does length of time also count? Like if you workout on Monday, but feel well enough to workout again on Saturday.

I'll do a light workout while I still have DOMs. It's good to get the muscles moving a bit.

If I do a new work out on Monday, and develop DOMs on Tuesday or Wednesday, I'll be doing that same workout again on Thursday ... and as I said above, light workouts on the Tuesday and Wednesday.

Are you saying you leave 5 days between workouts because of DOMS? You need to be active sooner, a little DOMS is improved by your next workout, only severe pain should stop you

No wonder the op gets doms if this is the case

Contrary to popular belief DOMs is not an indicator of how good your session was. If you cannot perform the exercise after 5 days you are doing too much

Technically, if it's right after your workout it isn't DOMS. With that said, if you're literally unable to move five days past your last workout you're doing something wrong. Either your form is off or you're overloading your muscles, or both. I workout every single day. Two days a week are just cardio, then the other days are working different parts of my body. Legs are twice a week. I usually only get a case of the DOMS after doing barbell squats, but they go away by day 3 and are never so awful that I can't perform other exercises between leg days.

5 days seems a long time to still find it too painful to work out. I'm feeling last night's Insanity session this morning but the pain should have mostly gone by this afternoon, with plenty of fluid and some gentle activity (walking and swimming). The worst I ever had was 2 days of barely being able to sit on the toilet and walking round like I'd just given birth, but that was after 120 squats of varying weights (so my own stupid fault) and still was improved by using the affected muscles (ie getting up and walking around).

I am confused by the title and the actual question...

Because "DOMS: immediately after, night of or day after", surely is not gonna be a factor in anything 5 days later.

This. There's no need to delay workouts when you have DOMS. Workout on Monday. DOMS on Tuesday. Workout on Wednesday. DOMS on Thursday. Workout on Friday. Chances are after a week or so your DOMS will decrease and may disappear entirely.

A couple weeks ago I restarted stair climbing and experienced DOMS in my calves the next day ... so I did more stairs that day ... then slightly less the next day ... then cycled but did no stairs the next two days ... and when I did stairs the next day, my calves were fine.

So you can push right through it for 2 or 3 days, then take a bit of a break for a couple days to recover ... if you want.

Depends on the severity of them. I had pretty bad DOMs after hiking this week end and took 2 days off (I did go for a brisk walk on day 2 though). But light DOMs, I usually jump back right into it.

When I've restarted from a prolonged break I would typically get DOMS after 4-6 hours (or on the next day if I was working out in the evening). I've only ever got it when I've just started back after a long break, I'm pretty much never sore when I'm in the swing of working out.

I've always done it by feel. A little sore is OK,pain and a limited range of motion aren't good (don't try to push through that).
