Love any advice you have for a woman starting back on weights. I used to do it more regular and am really just starting back.
How do you determine your starting weight for lifting. My first focus is losing weight, but I do want to add muscle tone too.
Thinking after my weight loss goal is met, I may lift more.
Also wondering about the best way to schedule areas to work on for maximum results. There is just so much conflicting info out there.

No need to wait until after you meet your weight goal to lift. Lifting, in conjunction with decent cardio/conditioning, can be great for weight loss.

What did you used to lift? What I've always gone by is see what you can hit for 12 reps without stressing yourself too much. That should be your starting weight. It's vague, but it's worked well for me in the past. Are you wanting to do strength based programming? Or machines? body weight?

Strength would be great! I have free weights and a machine. I really have about everything I need at home, except a spotter. So whatever I do I have to be able to do alone.
It's been so long I really couldn't tell you what I used to lift, and really I had no guidance then. I just used to push myself as much as possible.
I plan to do weights and cardio. Just wasn't sure of the best combination or schedule.

Free weights as in dumbbells, or a barbell and stand?

You could do something like that to get you geared back up for lifting, and doing more. You don't want to go too hard too quick or you could risk burning yourself out and dropping it all again.

Have you looked into Stronglifts 5x5? They have an app for both Iphone and Android. It's a great program for starting out, and building up strength. It helps you learn proper form too.

I'll try that. Thinking I can surely handle more than that. I'm used to physical work, so I will start there and see how I feel the next day. In the past I have been bad about over doing it and hardly being able to move the next day.
