Garmin Vs. App

I have been using a Garmin Forerunner 100 for years, and like it, but recently I started to walk with my phone, instead, and use the Map My Fitness app. I have found that my same route I take using the app puts me approximately 1-2 minutes quicker than the Garmin and then I obviously reach mile markers quicker. Does anyone know if there is an official disparity between the two? I certainly am not 1-2 minutes faster constantly out of no where.

I really enjoy using the app because it automatically syncs with this site, and I like that it talks to me every mile, too, but it only allows me to play one song on my phone and then I have to unlock the phone and put on another song. So again, doing this every three minutes should slow me down, too.

Any insight?

I use MapMyFitness. I have no problem with the music and I'm not sure about the timing. I am a looking to get a Garmin though because the app kills my battery.

    This is a good read.

But can't you link this site with Garmin Connect?

Yes, you can link Garmin Connect to MFP. I've used map my fitness and didn't have any issues with it playing music continuously. Do you have some battery saving app on? My husband did without knowing it and his map my fitness would stop recording all the time. I've never heard of it only allowing you to play 1 song at a time.

Why not play the music with a separate music app? I used to do this all the time when I used my Android phone to track my runs. I assume it works on other phones as well (crApple, Windoze, etc).

Hard to say about he accuracy. I found that my Garmin Forerunner pretty much matches what my phone recorded on the same route.

Can you try to keep your phone from locking? You probably have that set to auto lock after no many minutes.. not sure just a thought.

You certainly can link/sync garmin to MFP. And the GPS, they are all functioning through their own various software and the way integrate with apps/your particular device are all going to be different. I use Strava and Garmin.
