Did I do it all wrong?

In the course of a year and a half I've lost about 44 pounds just by counting calories and watching what I ate. Don't get me wrong, I'm so happy I lost weight it has changed my life but I'm still unhappy. I still need to lose about 10 more pounds but it feels impossible. I've been tracking well, excercising when I can, but the weight isn't coming off. I didn't work out the first time around so is that why it's so hard for me to lose weight?

It's harder the closer you get to your goal. It takes very strict (ie weighing solids, measuring liquids) and tight logging as there is less room for error.

What is your age, current weight, height and calorie goal?

Have you thought about talking to a professional about why you are unhappy? Sometimes I feel like I can control the food and lose the weight, but my feelings about why I feel the way I do about food, myself, and my life are still sucky, even though I'm seeing movement on the scale.

You've made a great deal of progress yet still aren't happy? Might want to think about that, maybe discuss with a therapist.

The last 10 pounds are the HARDEST to lose. You must be in the proper deficit and exercising regularly.

You also could need a break from dieting to let your metabolism recover. You could try reverse dieting to maintenance calories for a few months and then start to cut again. (Research what reverse dieting is, and what cutting is, and proper macros for your weight, height, age, gender, goals, activity level).
