So I have committed to a 5k on December 18th with the family. (I am the only overweight non-runner in my family). My goal is always to finish and not have record times but to beat my own times only. (Otherwise the frustration would kill me.) My best 5k time ever was 35:48 and my goal for that race was 36 minutes. I have been back to working out for 1 week and I'm putting running back in so I can run this entire 5k with a goal time of 35 minutes. To get there I am starting back on my 5k runner app with 3x a week in October, 4x a week in November and 4x a week in December. I will note in this discussion at least once a week on my progress. Anyone wanting to join feel free to add me as a friend or follow along this discussion with your 5K goals.

    Awesome!

From a personal point of view, I would losen up on the time you have set. If you have not been running for a while, trying to run too fast too soon might hurt you.

Im on the same adventure as you are, on week 7 now, and it seems like I will be closer to 40 than 35 minutes. (or I might be real real slow)

At least in the first few weeks, run slowly. Your legs will thank you for it.

And it will most likely be more enjoyable. Pain is not enjoyable.

Good luck to you, and keep running after the race has finished as well!

Keep it fun.. signing up for a race in itself will make you challenge your self each run to do more.. Just keep your training within the training plan and you will do great.. I can't wait to come back and see how you do race day!

Have fun.. :) Good Luck.. :)

Looking forward to your progress! I wouldn't have ever in a million years that simply registering for RUNNING my first 5K would motivate me to accomplish it. I was exhausted afterward but I'm proud to say it was my personal best and it was a huge event, the Hockeytown 5K. "Just a small town girl living in a lonely world..."
