Hey all! I really need your advice and support on the transition into my 30's. For my 30th birthday I would love to get fit. I'm not so sure of what that is anymore. At first I used to count calories, then I did weight watchers, and so many more diets that all worked for me. I got down to like 143lbs. My goal was 145 to 150. Today I'm 160lbs im desperately trying to get back to 145, but I don't know how to do that, without bouncing back to 160. Do I watch my calories, do I even focus on weight? Should I only measure? Help me find my path! Pleeeeease!!

If you want to be "fit", don't focus so much on the pounds. Watch your calories and create a deficit in order to lose weight. Make sure you doing some strength training if you want to maintain some muscle while losing said weight. Take measurements, work hard, eat good and you'll be in great shape for your 30s.4

Get a food scale and use MFP to calculate your calorie goal. Maintaining weight loss is much more difficult than actually loosing the weight.
The reason you bounced back to 160 is because your BMR lowered (smaller bodies require less energy) but your eating habits returned to what they were when you were 160. Your calorie needs at 145 are lower than what is needed at 160.2 -
To get fit, exercise--cardio & strength training. To lose weight, count calories. To keep it off, keep counting calories or learning to otherwise control your portions.0

It sounds as if you want to lose a few pounds as well as tone your body a little bit. If you exercise, you may find that your body changes as it tones and you will be happy at 150.
Take your measurements. You might get discouraged because you haven't lost the pounds you expected but you will have lost the inches. Muscle weighs more than fat.
I swam sidestroke 12 - 16 hours a week and lost a lot of inches in my thighs, hips, and stomach. Exactly where I needed to lose inches. When I was in my 30's, I did Pilates. Go to YouTube and try different exercise videos. It is loaded with routines to do.0 -
Hey, I started around where you are and have just lost 15lbs (still want to go another 15) and am in my early 30s -- wish I'd started when I turned 30. Mfp has been great because it's given me control over weight loss. You don't need to do anything special or only eat certain kinds of foods or exercise 6 days a week if that's not your jam. Just measure your food, count calories, and stay at a deficit. You will lose weight. Also, I think the key for me had been realizing I need this to be a forever way of eating and living. So it has to accommodate birthdays, anniversaries, dining out, etc. That means on a Saturday night, I might order a salad with a protein instead of the tastiest item on the menu so I can have the wine I want to have, or I might shave calories off each day for a week so I can have a rich dessert. But I know what my choices mean now. Good luck! Feel free to add me.0
